What this site is

imgtogif is a small set of focused tools for everyday GIF work: turning images into a GIF, resizing, cropping, adding text, trimming frames, merging, reversing, and pulling frames out. Every tool is free, has no usage cap, and adds no watermark.

How it works

Unusually for this kind of site, there is no server-side processing at all. The pages ship a small JavaScript engine that decodes and re-encodes GIF frames inside your browser tab. When you drop a file onto a tool, it is read by your own device, processed there, and downloaded from there. Once a page has loaded, you could go offline and the tools would keep working.

That design has two consequences worth knowing about. The good one: your files are never uploaded, logged, or seen by anyone but you — which is also why the tools work fine on confidential material. The honest trade-off: very large GIFs (hundreds of frames at high resolution) depend on your device's memory, because your device is doing all the work.

Why free

The tools cost nothing per use to run — your browser does the computing — so there is nothing to meter. The site is supported by unobtrusive advertising rather than paywalls, watermarks, or file limits.
